Must it always happen this way whenever there is a match close to K'Ogalo's heart?
At least 6 soccer fans are said to have been killed this evening during the stampede at the Nyayo stadium.
Sad indeed.

Its so sad, considering that it was otherwise a great match played at a terrific pace the weather not withstanding.

Alot needs to be done to ensure that we can continue watching our beloved soccer without the fear of losing lives

LUOs are the cause of most grave disasters that happen in this country. They should all be circumcised by force to help them have some sense in their small brains.

Bad luck. I was at the stadium. We never knew what had happened until it was announced on national media.

I dont know if it is a football thing but people need to behave better than this.... Why couldnt people just wait to get in pole pole? My heart goes out to those who lost their loved ones in the stampede.

@ Kamengele, It is a pity we still have such myopic people (like you) within our midst, Speak to the hand
....above all, to stand.

This was indeed a very sad day for football, I was at the stadium when I hear that a friend had been injured in the stampede and did not even finish the match, hat to rush to Nairobi hospital where he was admitted, the poor boy has broken his leg and needs an urgent surgery!!!!

The football authorities are just out of it in this country, a match where you expect tens of thousands to attend in a stadium of 15 gates and you open less than 5 gates......what a shame, the match has started and you still have bouncers and APs each trying to authenticate each and every ticket as if they even have any idea how the fakes would look like, what a shame!!!!

You seriously need help.

@Wazua...we have heard enough of this type of comment. Cant you really do something to stop this forum sliding into a tribal abuse forum?

@Mcreggae,
As much as i do not have nice things about stadia and football management, some blame must be laid on the fans feet.....Why did Gor fans insist on using gate 2 even when gate 3 was without a single fan?

Guka,
I agree with you that fans are also to blame for the tragedy, but if look at well managed stadia, the fanatism of fans is always addressed through proper management!!!

I am not sure gate 3 was without fans since there were lines in all the gates, I used gate 9 myself!!!!

i don't much about the game agreed, but i still don't understand why out of 9 gates only 4? were open.why one man has the keys to all the gates...why there were too few people at the gates confirming tickets. i don't think i blame the fans as much. why did the game have to be at night? why such poor parking arrangements? i blame the organizers and management of nyayo..and to some extent the sports ministry...if they had allowed coca-cola to remodel the stadium this prolly wouldn't have opened.

my condolences to the bereaved.

The small girl you are referring to was a footbal fan who had gone to watch the game, may she rest in peace.

I was at the stadium and anything that can go wrong for such a game went wrong.

First the rain was too much that it kept many fans away from the stadium till about 10 minutes to kickoff when it stopped, people then rushed to enter and this contributed to the pushing and shoving.

Secondly, the game was played at 7.00 pm, guys started drinking at west and all over town from midday and this did not help. Late evening games should only be played midweek, especially for the big derbies

The worst bit was that the police at the stadium were happy to stand away from the entrances and concetrate on chating amongst themselves or simply just watch, they really need to learn something about crowd management by being taught to take care of the first person who tries to go to the head of the line instead of waiting for the crowds to build up.

Finally, the crowds break the stadia doors at every major game, including the last event at the same venue btn Kenya and Uganda, why can't the stadia management redesign their entrance to include a bottleneck of some sort so that only one person at a time gets to the door.
