As I was heading home today , I met my version of modern day heroes. We boarded a matatu, First , the makanga raised the fare after finding kahawa imeiva at the matatu stage. We stomached the increase because we could understand there was traffic jam.
The makanga zoead us so much, ati wanne wanne ama mshuke.
We all refused to sit 4 passengers .The driver tried to throw tantrums by switching off the engine and alighting. We stood our ground and told the crew that hatuna haraka. They are the losers.
The makanga took over the drivers seat and threatened to angusha us.We dared him to try.He drove for afew metres and after we stood our ground he alighted and went to search for the driver and beg him to take us home. The driver obliged .We won and I was of course one of the loudest in protesting.
My fellow passengers ,who I have never met, made me feel proud. They are my heroes.
My regards to these and other small uncelebrated heroes in the First ever Heroes day20th Oct 2010 since the Birth of our Beloved Country Kenya.
Its time kenyans Acted instead of whining.
