Use of brute Force was out of the question because the police force was completely polarized. In fact the government was staring a mutiny in the face. The referendum hate speech was severe and action oriented. It prepared the people psychologically for the violence.

But not every Luo, kalenjin or Luyha supported the violence. I was in a violence hot spot but survived the entire period of the violence, but that is a story for another day.

@jk2010x,

What jeff says in that clip is just a basic truth. When you are attacked dont you have the right to self defense? People were being attacked on the basis of their tribes, they had to retaliate on the same basis. Its not rocket science, unless you expected a whole community to turn the other cheek.Sad

retaliation is something else but justifying mass killing just bcoz ur community was involved doest make it right.especially when it involves a tribal militia.

Its like saying the killings of grannies by sungu sungu in kisii are justified because they are getting rid of witches.

"THREE SIDES OF BULLSHIT!!!!"

TWO WRONGS DO NOT MAKE A RIGHT.

Attacking of innocent travelers and other Kenyans in whatever name is simply wrong and criminal, period!!! No amount of debate can change this FACT. People should not cry foul when HAGUE beckons.

I have watched the clip and I'm beginning to think people are selectively analyzing what Jeff said. I have picked a couple of things that absolutely no one has mentioned in their post. Jeff said:

1) I don't condone what Mungiki did.

2) ...two wrongs don't make a right.

3) ...the finger should be pointed across the board

etc.

I think Jeff was very brave to ask questions most of us [including wazuans] are afraid to ask in public. It's good to point out when someone goes out of line but we should state all the facts. For example, one should never kill an innocent Kenyan to avenge or prevent the death of another innocent Kenyan. But I guess that is what Jeff was alluding to by point no 2 above.

Having said that, I still stand by all my earlier posts including the fact that Jeff is saying what he is saying at the behest of UK.

Just before 1997, The Chair of the election commision's term had expired.

There was talk that Kivuitu was to be replaced.

Guess who protested loudest. Yes It was ODM who insisted to return Kivuitu.

So Selah, came on dont feed us crap!!

I however dont blame my Kalenjin brothers who killed a Kiuk who wanted to murder his family, neither do i blame my Luo brothers who did the same and surely I will also not blame my Kiuk brothers who do the same. No matter what.

@selah,

Just imagine if the targetted grannies organised for their defence against the sungu sungu. Would you blame them? This is exactly how i am looking at Jeff's story. Basic right to self defence when in danger. End of story

The Naivasha chaos is the toughest to analyse for someone from Central.On one hand the ODM troublemakers only woke up to the realisation that Kenya was burning after this chaos and hastened to the negotiating table.On the other hand, those who died were most likely innocent and had no part to play in the crimes of murder,assault, rape, and arson commited against Kikuyus elsewhere.Infact, they could have been bosom friends to the Kikuyu!...This was the Kikuyu dilemna in the chaos.There were many secretly smiling when Mungiki started circumcising people forcefully by crude methods in Nairobi.When Naivasha started,there were scattered cheers in Central.
What a wicked man I am!The things I want to do,I don't do.The things I don't want to do I find myself doing
