LOL... Check out the recruitment ad Pg 7 in Saturday's Daily Nation...

Jobs open to ALL East Africans so those feeling moto-moto at the unions in Nairobi better be worried!

was it not 2 years ago that kq employees went on strike, were fired then restated with salary increments? Kq should have a policy of continuos training of ground and air crew. They should also employ crew on renewable shorter time contracts maybe 3-5 yrs. This way the more expensive and complacent staff can be let go and transition will be smooth.

Trade Unionism is NOT about pay but power... The USA auto workers are & were very highly paid... lakini the brought the industry down by imposing lousy/lazy work roles...

VVS that was my point on trade unions in US and UK.

My querry on crews pay working for African Airlines was so as to get a feeling of whether the KQ guys have a point to make if they so underpaid as opposed to their peers.

Daily ads for jobs at KQ. The union wants to paralyze entire aviation industry... The good news for KQ is that is what causes hatred for unions...

When people got fed up of strikes staged by unions in UK... the downfall of unions started... Jobs were lost & never recovered...

KQ to resume NBO-Malindi flights in Dec 2010 for the tourists

http://airlineroute.net/2010/10/12/kq-nbomyd-w10/

Also this is probably in conjunction with the new NBO-Rome flights

@Guru...KQ needs cabin crew whether the strike is on or not....

1)The issue is that the crew wants ADDITIONAL pay back-dated 15 months ago... BS
2) As @Horton said, KQ is expanding so it needs 'new' crew... So it is a great recruiting ad campaign...

As mentioned before, I have been accumulating this counter as sentiment continued to plummet. I am about 55% to my targeted number of shares. I have picked at 45,44 and 43 (the last done yesterday). The price has rallied today which is a little dissapointing although it means I can at least sell and break even on some of my purchases.

I am convinced that we have not seen the end of the strike talk as the hearing of the dispute has been slated for 21st Oct. I only hope that if the strike is to materialise, let the strikers do it this month. It's better it happens now, that to have it hanging over the company like the proverbial sword of Damocles. Better to lance a boil than to have it fester into some malignant wound!

Despite add campaign for recruitment of extra CC being "genuine" i hope it has also scared the CC & their noisy union into bargaining to evade a strike. I guess KQ management would rather agree to something than face a strike & losses therein ...
Don't gamble; take all your savings and buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it...

We have to teach them a lesson! The unions philosophy is "if they give an inch, we take a yard"
