10 out of 14 directors and general managers at Equity are from Central Kenya! Impunity!!!!!
http://www.equitybank.co.ke/about.php?subcat=4
Boss, Equity is NOT a parastatal... they can have 20 out of 14 directors and 200 out of 40 managers as Kikuyus and there would be absolutely nothing wrong with that!

Aaaaa...Has this "wealthy" gentleman just abused somebody's mother? @wazua, I just hope u r enjoying the show by this lakeside gentleman, so just sit tight. I have personally heard the same sentiments from close to 20chaps fm the western part of this great republic....What cultivates such envy n sheer jelousy? I dont hold such coveting feelings on the wealth of my rich kikuyu brothers, infact, I dnt give a damn. Ni mali yao na watoto wao. TAFUTA YAKO u LAZY BONES!! RIEP Bw Muguku, your legacy has truly evoked lots of envy.

@simonkabz, images of the man were in the 9pm News last night. It is really sad to see the word envy in the same post as this man...

Last year, Financial Post asked Nelson Muguku how much he was really worth...
His Reply: “I am worth nothing. I am only a small farmer earning a living from poultry. But what I can tell you is that this type of business takes talent.”

What Muguku owns in shares at EB looks like a small portion of his total worth.I understand the poultry business alone is worth more than 3B.Asked about his 40 plus top grade dairy cows, the man said they do give him a little milk but he uses them more like lawn mowers to keep his 22 acre piece neat and well trimmed for his chickens...lol
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

I am waiting for the family to start dumping the shares on the market... I hope the price crashes... So I can buy more at 'cheap' prices!

The bank is awesome... and that is all I care about...

Africans should stop thinking on the basis of tribe but rather on the basis of trust....

If one hires those he trusts and they all happen to be from the same region then there's nothing wrong with this....
That said we must all be honest that central kenyans do own a huge chunk of kenya and this should gradually change....

How did we jump from 'EB should diversify its management' to 'people are envying EB'?

If EB wants a diversity of Kenyans as customers and shareholders, is it so wrong to expect a diversity in management?

Trust my foot! Do the rest of corporate Kenya hire based on 'whom we trust'

There is a definition for this, it is called nepotism. And it stinks!

@my 2 cents please tell me any company on the NSE that was not a former parastatal and is not started based on nepotism....

Good luck to you on starting your business and hiring outsiders based on the reason of diversity... We'll see How that goes for you

Why equity has 'skewed' ownership/ Management

1.Equity has its roots in Central Kenya

2.Central Kenya and in particular Kikuyu has the highest population numbers.

http://www.nation.co.ke/...-/11l14rlz/-/index.html

According to the census, the top ethnic communities by numbers are Kikuyu at 6.62 million, Luhya 5.33 million, the Kalenjin at 4.96 million, and Luo 4.04 million,

Others are Kamba (3.89 million), Kenyan Somali (2.38 million), Kisii (2.21 million), Mijikenda (1.96 million), Meru (1.65 million), Turkana (0.99 million), Maasai (0.84 million), Teso (0.33 million) and Embu (0.32 million) among others.

Besides equity bank is a listed company, no one has precluded anyone owning equity. Why can't people just get in to the NSE and mop out all shares on offer for sell instead of complaining this tribe or that tribe.

And all this explains why every political succession weighs heavily on this k bank.

Disclaimer - My origin is Central Kenya. I've never lived there.Simply put, I am a Kenyan, period.

Obiero made an observation. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. What is sad is to see the tirade of tribalistic comments that ensued.
If you deemed his statement to be lethal, why fuel it further. If one has nothing better to say, they should keep quiet. Is is a sad fact that it is the elite that start fires, but the poor and helpless are the ones that suffer the consequences.

Equity Bank is a tribal bank- for Obiero et al

FACT-Up until 2001, only Central deposites or borrowed from Equity
FACT-up until 2006, Equity had done 3/4 private placements and only Kiuks queued up to put their money in it
FACT-NIC (Kiuks), DTB (Wahindi), ARM (Wahindi), Jubilee (Wahindi); KK (Kiuks) are all dominated by one tribe but nobody ever goes on about them.
FACT-they are 43 banks in Kenya. All open for business. They are 52 listed shares on the NSE. All looking for buyers.

Those that were parastatals with diverse staff:

- HFCK [GoK had a significant stake]
- KQ

The thread was on what impact Muguku's death would have on EB.....this whole tribal thing started from Obiero

Diamond Trust Bank (Publicly Listed Company)

Board of Directors - 7 out of 8 of Asian origin
Senior Management - 10 out of 16 of Asian origin

In my 'short' time in Wazua, I am yet to see a single thread discuss DTB's diversity. Why do we feel so strongly that EB must 'share' with my tribe? Is it because it is a fellow African?

Are most African minds cursed to eternal retardation?

Suddenly a thread like the one below does not seem too far fetched.

http://www.wazua.co.ke/f...spx?g=posts&m=33582

There has not been a single comment here that provides a solution we can interrogate other than some vague proposals.

I hold very strong views on the West's obvious role in Africa's perpetual state of crisis and underdevelopment. But I am on the verge of issuing an unreserved apology.
