I do not remember ever throwing a tantrum when I was young. Its not that I did not, I think it may have happened but I was probably too young to remember it now. I however do remember seeing my younger brother throwing one and it was hilarious. He would start out by jogging on the spot and crying. He would quickly increase the speed and soon he was sprinting on the spot while the volume of his crying would rise at the same rate. The faster his feet moved the louder he cried out. Then he would fling himself on the ground and roll on the dirt. I had almost forgotten about these episodes until a few days ago when I felt like doing the same thing.

Kisa na sababu; landing permission denied. I thought I had read all the signals, checked the weather, done the preliminaries to establish agreeability with management and had spent a few hours getting ready. I think in my mind I had already taken it for granted that I would have a smooth landing so it felt like a slap in the face. No, first I thought it was joke so I tried to be funny with it. When that did not work I thought I just needed to show more commitment so I pleaded some more. When I got a gentle but firm NO after a couple of hours that is when I felt like starting to run on the spot.

It is a feeling of anger mixed with dissapointment, dejection, humiliation and helplessness. It is totally irrational and emanates from a place that is beyond reason. I remember the thinking part of my brain "understanding" that it is alright. She does not feel like it and it is totally legimitate and normal but it still hurt. It is impossible to talk about this feeling with anyone. The management noticed and was very consoling which made it even more embarassing. The feeling wore off after some time but it lingered long enough to make me reflect and wonder what kinds of outlets people have for these unspeakable hurtful feelings. Bosses harassing junior employees. A father taking it out on the children. Drinking in excess. Indiscriminate landings outside the home airport. Luckily I did not do anything stupid but if there was ever a time I felt vulnerable to do a stupid thing it was then.
