@all...some people said that chelsea's season begun at the Citizens. For them to retain the title they must arrive in December with somewhere between 8- 10 points difference at the top. If they dont then the December fixtures look like a mini-world cup.

They will play [b]Everton (Home), Spurs (Away), Man-U(Home), Arsenal(Away) and Bolton (Home)

@winston u should note that no team shall be on holiday during this time. All teams will be having fixtures to honour. manu, arsenal and the rest are blaming lack of depth, thats why they are dropping points.I wonder what miracle will have happened since all teams will have to wait till january to adjust their squads.
Also note three points collected from a top four team are equal to those collected from bottom ten team as per a manager but different as from fans point of view.
SAF is worried coz man u is dropping points where they could have picked them easily n remember: i mbere, i mbere ona akorwo ni funda!

Personally I have conceded early...the 3 seasons we won in a row was by picking points against mid table and relegation teams...I hope we do well in the gamble that is the CL, and by doing well I literally mean winning the damn thing.

EPL maybe next season - as much as 5 points gap is only a loss and a draw for them with 2 wins for Man Utd to be at par,I am certain we'll drop points again and again and again, as we have consistently shown so far, and am also certain Chelsea will not undergo a breakdown of epic proportions a la The Kop so far.

@smano - Maybe you should just become an Arsenal supporter. With that kind of attitude, you'd find yourself at home with other Arsenal supporters. Did you notice the first person to support you? An Arsenal supporter since 1942!

Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

@conos...Points against top sides and bottom sides are of equal value but the confidence boost is not the same.

While I have made assumptions that the other teams in between will be making similarly good progress, we can expect that all teams will lose points here and there. But I wanted to highlight that if I were seated at stamford bridge, I would aim to arrive in December with maximum points (do-able but not probable) so that i can have some cushion for the mini-world cup.

BTW...SAF is quoted as saying that chelsea should have had a 100% record as of now. That is not very kind to Man-city or Arsenal. In his eyes these were foregone conclusions that chelsea will win. Perhaps this lack of appreciating or is it respecting other teams other than chelsea is what is costing man-u the draws!

@Conos and @Winston..........I beg to differ. 3Points against small teams and 3points against your title rival are not the same.

Assume that with one match to go before the end of the season Chelsea is 2points ahead of The Mighty Man-U. Then the very last game of the season pits Man-U against Chelsea. If Man-U wins that match, they will take the title by one point. Get it?

Consider a different scenario. Assume both teams have same number of points but chelsea have a better goal difference of plus one. In the final match, if say Man-U beat Chelsea by 2 clear goals, Man U takes the title.

I have given these two scenarios and assumed the final match of the season to make my point clearer. Otherwise the effects of the matches at whatever stage of the season is the same in as far as the eventual title winner is concerned.

To win the league, you gain a lot of advantage when you hit your rival. Of coz morale boosting and bragging rights also come into the scene.

Food for thought!

Mwenza....i don't think you are getting this points thing. What we are trying to say is that you don't get more points than usual for winning against big teams neither do you get less points for defeating small teams....If you win against Chelsea this weekend and lose against Blackpool the next weekend then you haven't done much to improve your title chances.

@TAZ..........Agreed. However, my point is that a victory against a fellow title contender is definitely more important than a victory against any other team. The scenarios I have given above are meant to drive that point home.

This reminds me of another scenario. Suppose am on a salary of 200K per month and you are on 10K. Then both of us get a sack so we end up with ZERO salaries thereafter. Are these two zeroes the same? Definitely not!
