Read the article, but never read his books.
If he wins though, I'd be proud; proud of what is says or means about a Kenyan.

In your book it's a crime to express support for a certain politician? How perverse!

Ngugi wa Thiong'o deserves the Nobel Prize. I hope he wins! As a Kenyan, I am very proud when my fellow Kenyan succeeds in something - especially on the global stage.

It's the likes of Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Wangari Mathai, Rudisha, Wanziru (sic), Vivian Cheruiyot, the Rugby team, Mzee Maruge etc. that are making the work of marketing Kenya very easy for the Kenya Tourist Board.
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

One great thing I like about Ngugi is his insistence on using his mother tongue for his books. Unlike the crap you get in some households where some people think that not teaching their kids their mother tongue is an achievement. Having said that I have only bothered to read one of his book. The River Between. A great great book.

..His books are first written in Gikuyu. Ngugi said: “In writing, one should hear all the whisperings, all the shouting, all the crying, all the loving and all the hating of the many voices in the past, and those voices will never speak to a writer in a foreign language.” The Guardian

Clarification...I have not mentioned anywhere that I hate any tribe. What I said is that I used to hold the man in such high esteem that I did not expect him to make his political stand known at that time. Of course he is human and can say anything...but to win a nobel prize you should be sort of a super human...

...Now, for my Literature paper in form 4 exam I tackeld The River Between (which river now!!!) Kameno and Makuyu still echo in my mind. Mugo wa Kibiro, that great seer prophesies...

I have devoured the following books by him
1. The River Between
2. A grain of Wheat.
3. Wheep not Child
4. Petals of Blood.
5. Devil on the Cross ( Satani musalavani)
6. Black Hermit
7. Dedan Kimathi
8. Decolonising the mind
9. This time Tomorrow na kadhalika na kadhalika...

...was reading 'Wizard of the Crow' when he nagered me by supporting a political party and I left the book in a plane...
...But all the same a very prolific writer...
