@the deal, take out travel insurance. If the delay goes over 8 hours (UAP Travelsure) they give you some bread......My luggage was delayed once when coming from Oliver Tambo and they paid me $100

The biggest enemy of this share is its un-reasonable staff.

Hope am not spoiling the party...but there was some radio news item about Ethiopian, South African and someother carrier trying to work out details on how they can cooperate(if thats the word) on the western africa circuit. Good news or bad news or insignificant?

If KQ's staff want to go on strike, let them... then fire them! Let them look for other jobs!

KQ should increase their Africa (excluding Kenya) hiring. There are so many countries KQ flies to... Let's have more West Africans, Central Africans, South Africans, Ugandans, etc... Then there are the Chinese & Indian crew & staff...

1) If the employees think they are underpaid, then QUIT... PLEASE QUIT...Not kesho, lakini leo...

2) I run my own biz. Nobody pays me. I work for value I create. I take jobs that either pay what I am worth OR I take for 'lesser' pay coz I am looking/thinking long-term.

3) I betcha the costs of Chinese & Indian crews & staff is lower! Both countries have huge world-class airlines with lots of experience in maintenance.

4) As for other African countries that KQ flies to... KQ needs a blend of diverse nationalities. You want AT LEAST one Ghanaian on NBO-ACC flights, one Ugandan on NBO-EBB, one Egyptian on NBO-Cairo, etc...

Why? Culture, language, 'pan-African' look...

The Kenyan Pilots Association were bitching about hiring foreign pilots! They would rather KQ hired unqualified local pilots or that it stopped expanding!!!

At some point you have to DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND... If you are dissatisfied with KQ, go start your bloody airline just as Jetlink or Fly540 or Executive have done!

@vitu-PILOTS!?! Dont go thea brother. Every pilot that gets this kq wings is qualified, wel trimd to the right facet. At the end of the day, lets rememba that we r kenyans n it wud b good to serve kq. Thru the ab initia, the liks of BA,VIRGIN etc train their people. It wud therefore be fair enough if kq does the same by considerin citizens FIRST. Al the same, whether qualified or not kq stil puts u through books again n again til u glide like an eagle.Al said,i rest my case.

@X13 - Exactly my point!!! KQ needs qualified pilots to grow... there are NOT enough QUALIFIED Kenyan pilots to match KQ's needs...

So KQ wanted to hire foreign pilots to continue expanding but the pilots union were bitching about this! They claim there are enough Kenyan pilots who are qualified... They don't say these pilots are qualified for Cessnas but not for Boeing 737s, 767s & 777s!!!

The Ab Initio programs can't produce enough pilots as required TODAY... not for smaller planes but the Boeings...!

As for 'citizens'... 90% of KQ's business is NOT Kenyan... So it needs to open its doors otherwise there is resentment (see chinese in Angola or KQ in Uganda)...

KQ expansion is mostly in Africa especially Lusophone (Mozambique, Angola) & Francophone (chunks of West Africa, Burundi) countries. KQ needs staff who speak Portuguese & French.

I have heard that KQ wants to expand further into China (Beijing or Shanghai) thus there is the need to hire 'Chinese' (Han, Mandarin & Cantonese) speakers among the crew.

Instead of Naikuni placing a whole page advert on SN pleading with unionized workers not to strike he should SACK a few of them and employ new graduates who are looking for jobs.

Damn straight! Seems there is a fight amongst the union members as well... Let those who want to work work. Protect them. Fire those who go on strike...

there is more to employees than just hiring and firing. U think those will not unionise and we are back to the same prob?
I think the cost of training those graduates may be the same as back-dating as well!

KQ needs 'new' blood all the time as it grows. The issue is the stupidity of going on strike all the time.

I maintain that you are NOT forced to work for the private or public sector... If you feel underpaid or under-appreciated then QUIT...

As a shareholder I do not care if an employee quits unless I can't replace him/her. Everybody is replaceable...

kenyatta thought he was the 'one'... he died & was replaced by moi... who claimed Kenya would be in big shit if he left... kibaki came in... who wanted a 2nd term thinking Kenya needs him... well, he will be gone in 2013...
