Anyone with first hand info how I can import used clothes and shoes in bulk containers from abroad and the requirements? I'm researching and any info from SK will be highly appreciated in my endeavour to invest and create more jobs. Also if I can get bulks/bales for sale in Mombasa and for how much and location. Good evening.

Importing second hand clothes/shoes doesn't create jobs.It kills jobs.Kenyans have a misconception of second hand things.While they believe that they are cheaper(the real junkies are).Most used clothes in Kenya sell at higher prices than when they were new in their countries of origin.

@AliBaba; while I agree with you that imported second hand goods kill jobs,I find it hard to believe that 'Most used clothes in Kenya sell at higher prices than when they were new in their countries of origin.'

Can you give an example to support your assertion?

E.g.,a new pair of jeans costs XXX in USA while a used mtumba is YYY in Kenya

Behind the gardens...Behind the wall...Under the tree (Including: Red...Dark Blue...Yellow)
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

@ ali baba

and they don't kill jobs per see...

just walk to the open markets in gikomba,mutindwa,kibera,jogoo among others (not mentioning sunbeam & other stalls in the city) and you will realize how many people rely on the mitumba!

When you run so fast to get somewhere,you miss the fun of getting there... Life is not a race,so take it slowly....

@kamaa,

If these are jobs then it only means more compe thus,the ones already doing these 'jobs' will earn less

MUKIHA,

Shoes for instance.If u ask the price of second hand shoes at say Nyayo mkt,those sellers charge higher prices for those shoes than new ones in countries like USA !! Exhibition stalls.If you go to some of those stalls and ask for those newer shirts hang on their walls,you might be surprised.Most of those shirts (and some are used) sell at higher prices than same shirts in USA's Walmart store.But kenyans who are so blinded by Gikomba things think they are getting a deal.Wake up guys and smell the coffee!
