In stead of the government getting hung on KPRL why don't they just invite the Chinese to build a new refinery and get an almost equal % ownership as they have in KPRL. This will likely improve the conditions in Kenya.
Indian companies are not reliable - corruption and disorganization are endemic - just look at the Commonwealth games.
Chinese can do this and do it well, they could even use it to refine some of the oil from South Sudan and sell it directly to us so we are no longer buying oil from the Arabs.
I'm tired of all this fuel shenanigans.

@mv - The refinery was in even worse shape before Essar came in. IMHO, Kenyans are more corrupt on a per capita basis than the Indians.

I saw the photos of the Commonwealth Village lakini, they have far better stadia than we do. We can't even hold a decent All-Africa games (remember the huge scams back in the day) let alone a Commonwealth Games!

@mv - Why would the Chinese build a refinery in Kenya for Sudanese oil?

They would probably be better off building it there...

1) Local market
2) Cheaper to ship the finished White Oils to Lamu/Mombasa for export
3) Use the Black Oils & by-products in rapidly growing S.Sudan
4) They already have a investments in Sudan so a refinery in Sudan buys them additional heft.
