Please help, whatever info you can share... 1 - How much does dialysis cost at KNH per session? 2 - Does anyone know if Kidney transplants have been done at KNH? 3 - If affirmative to #3 a - what approximate cost? b - what are the formalities to get this done? (assume the donor organ comes from Uganda) c- what duration (operations on donor and recipient) of stay for recuperation? Pls help - someone's clock is ticking...

I have a relative who is to undergo a kidney transplant in Nov.this are some of the costs so far. Dialysis-4,500 per session (she goes for two sessions in a week) Transplant estimate is about 500,000/= KNH is the cheapest around. Some long text i posted just got lost. I'd said:- Yes, transplants are done in knh. Cost about 600-700k. Dialysis costs approx 4,500 per session but one needs about 2k extra for some needed stuff. Other options are the loresho eye clinic in loresho. It costs 7,500. I'm sure u know the costs at nairobi, karen n aga khan hospitals. There's also nairobi kidney centre at 8,500. However my advise on the matter is-if you're considering a transplant, go to india.

@MS Mkenya - the reason India is not high on the list is because donors are available (from a family of abt three dozen possible people - I think people mostly go to India since organs can be obtained easily - HOWEVER, the basic research I have done (and sort of confirmed by specialists) is that if the organ is rejected, then its another whole terrible cycle...better if its done locally... And the way they are handling the CWG...hmmm But thanks for the suggestions...

Ok, forget the games issue. They really are good with medical matters. Yes failure results in a repeat cycle you're right. But proper testing is done beforehand. Knh's ok also. Remember to factor in post surgical expenses e.g. life long drugs in your costing also.
