OF all the telcos Yu has Emerged as one of the best strategist. While ZAIn,SAFARICOM,ORANGE are spending millions in advertisements and promotions yu is spending less,Their data is cheaper and faster than that of zain they are currently promoting DUAL SIMCARD phones thereby targeting those die hard safaricom subscribers and lately they have been concentrating on adding value to their network. In terms of cost management yu ranks tops.

Orange on the other hand I dont know whats wrong with them yesterday they said they are not going to roll out their 3g platform until they exhaust their 2G spectrum. This company will continue to lag behind and their dominance in the Data segment may come under threat if they are not careful.

Zain must be feeling the pitch of their drastic tariff cut .The way the CEO was wining in regards to CCK rules and changing his earlier projection of becoming the market leader from one year to 50% in 3year shows ZAIN has a long way to go if they are to challenge safaricoms dominance.I think the 3g roll-out is proving a challenge to the management since the pricing of data should reflect their new strategy of low prices.

Safaricom has realised that the only way they can maintain their revenue streams is by encouraging more scratch card sales The kumbamba promotion seems to have been received well by high income customers but the low income segments are switching to the competition hence the revision of the promotion. In the data segment which hold great potential for revenue growth they have initiated a price war that is targeted at reducing telkom K dominance in this segment.

All in all the telco industry will face alot of challenges going forward the infrastructural cost will eat most of their diminishing revenues while the increasing operational cost will lead to cost cutting measure which I hope would not impact on the quality of service rendered.

'......to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.' Colossians 2:2-3

Really. If their total subscriber base comes to slightly below 1.5m how are they dominant in data?
