The problem with the delay in announcing the Capital Restructuring is it depresses the price for those who want to sell...

On the other hand, for me & @mwanahisa, it means we can expect a better 'conversion rate' as KPLC's fortunes increase in 2011 with additional connections, increased sales & better management 9lower losses, etc)...

If KPLC does a 20:1 split... then we have shares at 12/- which can rapidly rise to 18/- (similar to KenGen) as long as earnings keep pace...

They are good results but not great. I am a little dissapointed to be honest, especially by the dividend. I had presumed that the increase of the interim div from Kshs 2 to 3 signalled an intention to increase the full year dividend. I had anticipated that the final dividend would be Kshs 7 to round up the figure to Kshs 10.
Same here but my gut tells me the reason was to keep a lid on anti-KPLC sentiments including COTU (strike threats) & customer/consumer backlash...

Also KPLC is going for a Rights Issue sooner than later... So why pay a higher dividend when you ask the same shareholders for money back?

IMHO, KPLC should have paid a 'small' bonus just to assuage shareholders & withheld the dividend... Or pay a Scrip Dividend

@vvs can you please explain what a Scrip dividend is... Thanks

having your eggs with the govt's in one basket, rushing home with govt carrying the basket is very uncertain. This restructuring business/split?? talk screwed many in 07. 3 years later still the talk, wont be surprised if we go past 2012.
Anyway pple lucky Kimush isnt at treasury otherwise yu would be properly screwed ala mumias, safcon. yes kimush always going for best deal for gova - dont ask me about abt sincerity.

kplc results little to thump about.

Actually.. @alikuja... I prefer a confused vacillating GoK coz I do NOT want a conversion at this point!

As long as it rains (or it does not) & KPLC has enough supply, there is enough demand for stima...

Look at the cash flow report, cash from operations down significantly from last year. Bad sign.
Current Assets up by 10B, what have they invested in worth this much? Or are they not collecting on their bills?

PG 37, Daily Nation, Sept 24 2010. @GG, I wouldn't read too much into the drop in cash and cash equivs. But I can now understand why the dividend is not as high as I expected.

Huh???

1) The Current Assets are DOWN KShs 1.7bn. Where are you getting your numbers from? nyoike? Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you

2) The cash from Operations is down KShs 3.3bn but still a decent 11.8bn. Not sure why there was a reduction but it has to be looked at in various other contexts including what was 2008 CF.

3) I believe KPLC has been diligent about disconnecting folks who do not pay! The pre-pay system will improve cashflow while reducing collection costs!
