Well, not sure if i can be of help.
Next time you talking to the Hydraform experts/contacts, just mention that you want an equivalent of/to the conventional Hollow Pot Blocks. The ribbed systems greatly saves on reinforcement.

When it comes to Hydraforms, i've only seen them on the back of DISH magazine and on DSTV.

Hi Guys

Thanks for bringing this topic up,for sure we have to venture into sustainable housing with locally available materials.

We just formed a company,FOAMBLOCK KENYA LIMITED,concerning the foam blocks.
We just shipped the machines and we shall be operating from Mombasa,on large scale production.
This will be a milestone in construction.

All the materials are already shipped,we just need to install and hit tha road.

Hydra Foam technology has been in use in South Africa and many countries in the West for some time now. With one bag of cement, which costs Sh750, you can make 100 building blocks. In a quarry, 100 blocks will cost you a minimum of Sh5,500, including transportation and handling overheads.
When you do the comparison you can see the massive saving in it.

This will be a milestone in the construction industry.

I can't remember the dates well but JKUAT had an open day and they were exhibiting some of their innovations including this machine. I can't remember the price well but they said a manual one goes for about 170k and they make them by order. Kindly visit JKUAT and learn more and probably make your orders.

Below are prices for different types of machines from Makinga Engineering Services Ltd.
Didn't buy any but went the old fashion way - gathered a few vijana to make matofari and "chomad" them after.
1. Standard Soil Block Press - Kshs. 65,340
2. Straight Interlocking Soil Block Press - Kshs. 79,850
3. Curved Interlocking Soil Block Press - Kshs. 88,865
N.B. All Incl. of V.A.T

You can visit them for a demonstration in Industrial Area (Nairobi) along Likoni Rd. opposite B.A.T. on Lokitaung Rd. in the Kenya Industrial Estates (K.I.E) shed no. 27.
All the best

@Mville,
stabilized soil blocks (SSB) and Stabilized earth blocks (SEB) should be one and the same......i stand to be "collected" though.
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

Guka, I'll take your word for the gospel truth coz, frankly, I'm totally clueless in construction-speak.
