Ric Dees, I thought a new Hong Kong Airport was built in 1998 to get rid of the landing problem cause of the skyscrapers.

@You*** true, a new airport was built in 98, heck they "built" an island for this purpose, Yes this was one of the reasons for this, but it does not get rid of the situation in it's entirety, and the mountains are still there..speak to any pilot it is a difficult place to land, so am sure Wilson with the stalled housing projects surrounding it is do-able.

The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence; it is to act with yesterday's logic.

@you*** @ricdees

HK's new airport is built into the sea [aka on reclaimed land] which is NOT possible at Wilson airport UNLESS the 'reclaimed land' is from the land-grabbers!

Also I think some crooks are targeting Wilson Airport [then Nairobi National Park]...

The problem at Wilson is there is NO more land to expand the runway [needed for larger planes]...

Nevertheless, I agree that Wilson airport should be expanded for the smaller planes [the various Cessnas, Pipers, etc] so as not to congest JKIA...

And it appears the Zim are quite cheap as they presently make $2500 a month. Meanwhile 540 have been given frequencies to Dar. If they moved to Wilson for this route, they would kill KQ whose advantage will only be feeding their Transcontinental flights.

KQ does not fly to Dar but Precision does... Competition is good but for those who need to make 'connections' still need the KQ/PW flights... Also PW has the largest network in Tanzania...

Seems lower fuel costs has benefited some airlines this year. I hope KQ will be among them in 2H...

Travelport offers through its Galileo and Worldspan platforms, both within Africa and globally would offer the airline access to the travel trade. Kenya Airways has scheduled flights to 50 global destinations including an extensive network in Africa. Managing Director for Travelport in Africa said his firm was looking forward to working closely with Kenya Airways as a strategic partner. Travelport operates in 160 countries and is comprised of: the global distribution system (GDS) business that includes the Worldspan and Galileo brands; GTA, a leading global, multi-channel provider of hotel and ground services; Airline IT Solutions, which hosts mission critical applications and provides business and data analysis solutions for major airlines. @vvs What is the size of kq's fleet? These days they are all over jkia, hardly any emirates, ethiopian, BA to be seen.

Alot of optimism but the share is not interested.

Is that inclusive of the leased planes. I have noted they have a number of KLM leased planes in blue colour!

5*erj-170(72 seaters)
5*B733(116 seaters) 1 more on the way
4 B737(116 seaters)
5 B738(145 seaters)
7 B763 (232 seaters...variable due to seating config)
4 B772 (324 seaters) 3 STD versions on their way. What they have now is ER ext range

B737 are the best utilized in Africa. Despite the fact that kq has less ndeges than et, they have better utilization of crew n planes.
Someone here mentioned that Kq is getting more B738(737-800) not to my knowledge. I do know they r getting a bunch of ERJ190s which are 100 seaters

Here is more for you.

The commercial director was a Hugh Fraser. Who is now at air uganda. His time at Kq was a time that was completely stagnant, no growth etc etc. I was actually glad to see him go.....they now have Mohan Chandra, ex Emirates, who was in the midst of their growth and now implementing route expansion at Kq. He is much better, than the previous jamaa.

Btw, the delays of late with kq has the following explanations...
1. No parking spots at jomo
2. Serious expansion, and these delays are quite normal for an airline
3. Serious shortage of "qualified Captains" this is a worldwide phenomenon especially on the B737/767. It takes about 10 years to train a commercial pilot to airline captains(from Wilson ie GA) ET have actually made these chaps a "national asset" as the demand worldwide is extremely high and opportunities keep opening for "qualified pilots ESP captains.

@Horton

Many thanks. It looks KQ will easily be trading at KES 70 or thereabouts given the expansion programs they have. Currently trading at 45, one can easily make some 20% gain before end year.

S.A.A has a fleet of 50 and orders of 26 more. The average age of the fleet is 8.6 years. (Wikipedia) Ethiopian Airlines has 41 operating fleet and 50 on order. It also has the youngest fleet. www.ethiopianairlines.com/en/corporate/fleet.aspx
