@kyt, Safcom aren't claiming that the netbooks are supercomputers. Why should someone who may not be an expert require more than a 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM? They even have VGA connections so you can use it with a monitor. Netbooks are designed for office applications and internet use so there's no need for a CD/DVD drive. They're worth the 24k imho. In a place where thought is abandoned, freedom can become a curse.

in my view, a teacher will do well with a baby computer...what do they do with it anyway, go to facebook? back to the topic. Orange 3G is definately not 3G. this coming from someone who has paid for their service every week for the past 4 months. It is not 3G but a good back up. Call their customer care and they will say that there's something wrong with your computer. So a teacher will be fine with the safcom computers and Orange Not3G just fine. I like teachers.... So a teacher will be fine with the safcom computers and Orange Not3G just fine. I like teachers.... I am not a teacher but do not like the kind of attitude being exhibited here. A 1gb Ram, 160GB HDD computer will basically do all the computing one will need- documents, spreadsheets, internet, webcam etc (just to draw a parallel, to solve your motoring needs, its not a must that you buy a 4.6litre Range Rover HSE, a 1500cc Toyota Corolla will do). If you need extra storage, one can always get an external 1TB drive. And who needs CDROM/DVD drives these days? And just to remind you, it's just the other day multinationals were being run on 32MB Ram, 10GB HDD computers. And as far as I know teachers are recruited from former university/college students (who happen to be very tech-savvy). So I don't understand how they would suddenly lose their computing skills after taking up their teaching positions.

Why would a computer that will need an external harddisk later? As for the ram, some programs are heavy and need a fast speed ram, stuff like encarta and even word 2010 are heavy progs, am sure some be tempted to install one or two games nfs carbon and fifa 2010, may also require a high speed ram. But i guess it all depends on the NEEDS as u've just written. LOVE WHAT YOU DO, DO WHAT YOU LOVE.

Haha...Kyt,nice one!My parents are both teachers and I can assure you they've never heard of Word 2010,NFS Carbon or FIFA 2010.They aint heard of Vista or Windows 7. All they need is XP,yahoo mail, gmail, facebook and word 2003 or 2007.I think 1Gb Ram & 160Gig HDD is enough for that brother. Formally employed people often live their employers' dream & forget about their own.

chris79 wrote:@vvs, that does not mean you accuse all teachers of being know it all busybodies, there are some real decent teachers out there. And of course the school you went to also matters, but i'll let that slide for today. I went to a somewhat decent school but she phrased the question in a manner that meant my answer was correct... Try to explain that to her... How dare a student challenge a teacher??? What I am saying is that in other countries (I was forced/lucky to go to the USA for my univ coz of riots at UoN) students can challenge teachers... When I say challenge... it means with facts or research... guidance vs 'my way or the highway'... Again, attitudes may have changed... I was in primary school many, many years ago!
