State disowns Queen Jane’s certificate
The tussle over the burial of the late musician Queen Jane took a dramatic turn after the Registrar General disowned a marriage certificate presented before a Thika court as proof that she was married to Mr James Kariuki.
The Government officer said the certificate Kariuki produced, had not been issued by the church, which allegedly conducted his wedding with the deceased.
In a letter to the court, the officer said the said church had not been issued with the booklet from where the certificate in question was removed.
It also emerged a duplicate of the certificate was not returned to the registrar as required by law.
Through lawyer Ngure Mbugua, Kariuki had told the court that they were not issued with the important document following their Christian marriage in 2001.
Yesterday, Senior Resident Magistrate Barbara Owino ordered the production of witnesses by both the plaintiff and the defendants for the case to be heard Wednesday.
