Pole Pops .
This roads are becoming death traps.
I also lost a very good friend in a car crash last friday evening along Mombasa highway near Athi river.
Though ajali haina Kinga , guys please be careful while on the highways.

I also believe that the Road ministry and traffic departments are dead asleep.
You can be careful and then a drunk f***l hits you dead.

Pole for the loss of your spouse, wish you too a quick recovery from your last week's accident. Anyway, does your employer have a group insurance scheme? For comprehensive, most insurance firms insist on seperate policies for accident compensation.

@pops, sad sad indeed. Pole sana and I said a prayer...

I checked with a friend. Comprehensive insurance only pays for injuries to third parties (not travelling in the car)

Personal accident is the cover that compensates for disability up to 8 years. And would also have allowed for injuries to your spouse.

Life insurance would be a god-send in this circumstance.

And for the other Wazuans on a related note, I was introduced to concept of Workers Injury cover; allegedly required by law for all employees and protects against any kind of workers injury. Don't know how may of us have it...

Pops, am really sorry for your predicament. May the good lord give your wife eternal rest. Am sure the angels are watching over her. I pray that you may heal fast and completely.

Comprehensive covers cater for 3rd party and in this case you are a 3rd party coz you do not own the car so you can claim. If you have a personal accident cover either with your employer or a personal one, you should invoke it and they should pay you the equivalent of your income on a weekly basis.

Again, pole sana, take courage and God bless you.
Lord, thank you!

@Muganda 1st party is insurance company, 2nd party is owner of the car and family members, 3rd party is any other person who may be travelling in the car or injured while outside the car. Thats my understanding.
Lord, thank you!

I need some clarification please;
My car is comprehensive insured, you mean I cant claim injuries when I got "God Forbid" an accident?
Kwani does this coprehensive cover entail?

@Impunity,

The passengers are covered, not the driver

If I'm injured in that accident then who will pay me?
And then what is the difference between this Motor Vehicle 3rd Party cover?

Pray Pole sana, may God give you the strength to overcome the loss.

Though I'm not an expert in insurance matters, I can share a few things:
1. Like someone else has said the car insurance is meant to protect the car and maybe personal effects in case of damage to the vehicle.
2. Comprehensive insurance therefore compensates you for the damage to the car for repairs or replacement.
3. If you are the driver and owner of the car injury or death is not inclusive nor to immediate family members.
4. The answer lies in personal accident cover, life insurance etc.

You may need to talk to your insurance provider for clarity anyway.

May God bless you as you recover and remember baada ya msiba ni faraja. Be STRONG
