I now know of three guys who can't go home before 9pm on weekdays because of these spanish soap operas with terrible english, terrible voice translations and at 9pm the guy just wants to watch News. One guy even has an open plan clande that he brings to the pub, after all the wifey and all her pals are glued to the screens meaning slim chance of being caught.

What's your take on these soaps because I just can't imagine how guys go home to this?

BBI will solve it

Two TVs - Volunteer to watch the smaller one - in the bedroom.

That way, you'll get some peace for a couple of weeks/months. Then one day she'll get a bright idea. Leave the sitting room TV to the kids and watch the soaps from the bedroom. If you have a kid between 1 - 4yrs, you of course don't expect to win the TV war without creating a cold war. Time for plan C - which I don't have!!!
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

I would not allow that in my home. 8pm is time for the family to be together, if we can't all watch something we all like then it's time or the damn tv to go off.

Watching TV is not being together. If you want to be together, you do something interactive like playing a game of monopoly [or snakes & ladders etc. if the kiddos are very young], complete a house chore together or the good old pass time - talk - talk about your day, challenges, plans, dreams etc. etc. to an extent that every member of the family understands where everyone else is coming from and where he is going. Now that is family time!

The solution a la Conquestador is to do away with TV.
Its my 10th year without it - and last I checked I still had all vital faculties.
I said no to packaged nonsense which I have no control over.
Its amazing that our family has so much to do for fun/leisure/decompression without watching TV such that if we were to reintroduce it (we wont), we shall have no time for it.

But that is the Conquestador household. And one man's TV is another man's poison.

@Conquestador

I feel you.
Made a decision after campus not to own one. 8 years and 1 child later... no regrets.
