Hmmmn this telecom wars, more interesting than a soap opera I tell you...

Safaricom has found it fit to reassure Zain that they are not up to any naughtiness. In fact, they remind Zain that:
-Interconnect pipe between the two belongs to Zain
-Zain forgot to request capacity upgrade on time as per their interconnect agreement
-Zain is actually running on Safaricom cash noting they have to be continually afforded service they can't pay

Wololo yaye... you don't say....

Dear Zain,

Poa baba! Tulipata your emergency call late last night about the new relatives living under our rented house, and we're hurriedly renovating the store so you can fit more beds.

Lakini about the rent, you know you're 4 months overdue! We don't want to evict you with your relatives at this time, but please stop insulting us when you speak to your guests.

Man, you even went to the chairman of the neighbourhood committee - shindwe!

Landlord,
Safaricom

Zain accusses Safaricom of unfair practices.

Oooh just found this one...the first press release.

In a separate press release, Zain has accused Safaricom of unfair practices. They have written to Charles Njoroge, Director General CCK who has acknowledged receiving the complaint.

They would like Safaricom stopped from "abusing dominance" by offering only limited capacity to cross network calls from Zain network; claiming congestion is only arising when their customers call Safaricom (not within network) and delay in capacity increase by Safaricom.

DONDI - Good punches by Zain thus far

* act first to appear as market leader, and make anyone who adjusts later appear a copycat
* take advantage of congestion to appeal to CCK to ensure Safaricom is declared "dominant player"
* by effect locking Safaricom from making any cuts/rate changes for 90 days, and having full notice in gazette of what they want to do
* gradually transforming into the network of choice

DONDI - One punch by Safaricom

* taking advantage of Zain's lack of notice showing they are poor planners or disorganized

DONDI - Most body blows by CCK

* hogging TV business news to show they are working hard for Kenyans
* showing they're the boss by demanding other operators reduce call and SMS rates; though they may already be planning to do so
* stating that from now onwards, they will not approve different on-net/off-net call rates as Safaricom likes doing

Why would Safaricom block Zain calls? This is blackmail. I have for a long time been a Safaricom client but I shipped out to Zain today. I don't even want anymore of Safcom number.

Unless Safcom shows beyond any reasonable doubt that it did not maliciously block my calls to Safcom numbers at the reduced charge of 3 bob, I will never return for their service.

By the way, is it possible to survive without a Safaricom line?

@surealligator. i beg to differ with you on that. there is usually capacity between safaricom and Zain for inter network traffic. with the upsurge of traffic on this link there was bound to be congestion. Zain did not give safaricom ample notice to uograde this capacity. usually its a 7 day notice so i do not see any foul play on the part of safaricom.

Highly unlikely that Safaricom blocked Zain calls.

Technically speaking, between each operator there is a finite amount of 'bandwidth'. Since the new tariff was announced by Zain, the traffic from Zain to Safaricom was greatly increased to it's capacity. It probably took some time before additional capacity was added.

Now what would be malicious would be Safaricom not being interested in increasing this interconnection capacity...

@Guru...

Yah, I have now seen the other threads. How do you kill a thread. Give instructions here and I will do exactly that.
