From KISS FM leo asubuhi

Only 40% of Kenyans use the rubber!!!!!? no wonder prevalence of AIDS remains at almost 18%.Is it that men do not jua how to wear the rubber?

The low percentage has been blamed on lack of knowledge of the technique to wear (e.g rolling it all out and wearing like a trouserLaughing out loudly Laughing out loudly ), drunkenness etc. Ama wanaume mnataka bibi akuvalishe?smile Your thoughts

@ No stopping this. You have to stop this rumour mongering business.

Which Kenya has a HIV prevalence of 18%
Which Kenya has a condom use rate of 40%

Stop quoting monkey business-media houses and start thinking.

@spend.thrift...actually from the Kenya AIDS indicator survey report, the prevalence stood at 7.1% among adults 15 - 64 years old ...pole for that misinformation.

and you should note that the 40% is not from KISS FM;they were just discussing what Muraguri (head of NASCOP) had reported. So there is no rumour mongering as you'd like to portray...

@ No stopping this. don't send that link here.

Even the Aids Indicator Survey was done in 2007 (3 years back). Try the Demographic and Health survey of 2009.

I have looked at your source indicating a prevalence of 6%, but that is between ages 15 - 49 among adults as opposed to 7.1% for adults 15 - 64yrs. But anyway, the concerns raised were that men do not know how to use condoms, you decided to focus on the prevalence....

Check Chapter 13 (13.5) of that doc for matters condom use and you will discover you are the one who is dwelling on prevalence. I am not fighting you. I am just disturbed when I listen to radio shows run by mangoes who take things out of context not because they want to but because our media houses are full of people who know nothing apart from reading scripts and thereby mislead the public.

For the record that 40% figure is wrong.

I get angrier when people like you happily amplify the spurious noises from those classics and kisses.

I maintain that a KIMC diploma, "celebrity status", a pretty (brown) face or the ability to make people laugh should not be the sole qualifications for people to be entrusted with so much opinion and access to the ears of the greater public. It's like giving a monkey an automatic rifle and hoping they will only fire into the air.

Remember we are living in the information age-yet the media thrives on the information edge, just about to fall off.

@ Nostopping ... Before you accept the study report you should understand how they were collected. KDHS is from random cluster sampling and therefore gives a better estimate and is less prone to bias.
While the indicator survey relies heavily on sentinel site surveillance which are usually hospital and antenatal clinics which gives a biased estimate and it is biased towards an overestimate!
Pole for the dressing down lakini hapo umejiexpose ati prevalence of 18% Liar Liar Liar
Kenya is not south Africa and it has never been that high!

I accepted the 18% was an error on my part...then consulted the KAIS report, but the KDHS also puts the prevalence as similar as KAIS...the difference in the 2 studies comes from the difference in the compared age groups.
